We here, are a ridiculous people indeed; & I here, won’t go ahead without a proof!
I mean come on, isn’t it looking like we have absolutely no use whatsoever of sensibility?! How one or two of us (including, one or two from media and all) still harp about the aata & cheeni crisis when the nation is facing an even dire one…the controversy of Meera’s shaadi!
Why, isn’t she ‘public property’? And isn’t the ‘public’ owing her, Pakistani? Who do you think would discus her & the controversies related if we & our media stop being responsible? You don’t mean to think they’ll discus her issues now in Oprah, do you?
But we unfortunately have this clan of ‘paradox’ creatures living right amongst us (what a pity!), who’d call it all ‘absolute claptrap’ (confiscate them!). They can’t get why it’s so important to address to these “social problems” & give them more of media attention then the economic, financial, legislative or other such trivial ones. & Pakistan, in spite of having such a clan on it, keeps on reaping such issues at a tremendous pace!
Last year, we were facing another such real dreadful problem when Shoaib Akhtar was turned out of Pakistani cricket for ten years (on account of some evidences that would pretty derail us if we discus them here). Those were dark times (it isn’t an exaggerated sentence or mere copying from hp series); horrible trauma for his fans & one horrible loss-to-be it was for Pakistan cricket itself. Yet they kept on talking about ‘mutiny in Swat’, ‘situation of Wana’, ‘relations with India’, ‘alliance with America’ & ‘restoration of Judiciary’ (utter insensibility!). One sagacious analyst, however, one day struggled out of this & very courageously remarked, ‘how do we still talk about other unimportant issues when the biggest issue of Pakistan is free & fair restoration of Shoaib Akhtar’? Amazed he seemed at the Media & masses for not giving Shoaib the due allowance of their time, & so was I!
Same condition prevails still, only the face has changed. Some people still think ‘drone attacks’, ‘economic crisis of Pakistan’, ‘ripple effect of economic crisis’ are more vital problems we are facing that should be addressed to. I mean folks, these are problems, but haven’t we solutions to them as well?
See, the drone attacks for instance…come on, let the government deal with the drone attacks (or else the attackers), why to worry ourselves, eh?
The ‘cheeni crisis’ then; haven’t Qahira uncle (yeah they all need respect, mind you) gave the solution by advising us to lessen (or stop) its consumption (no better solution could ever be presented; only we never care to listen!)?
Aata crisis; al right, I admit this still hasn’t got a solution but they’d soon suggest something like solution of ‘cheeni crisis’ for it as well, like enough.
One very innovative idea for solutions of such crisis was once presented by Dr. Younus Buttduring ‘fuel crisis’ (alas! We never listen to rational ideas) that government should form a committee of ‘moulana hazraat’. Those worthy ‘men on mission’ could go from pump (petrol pump, I mean) to pump, praying at each individual one for the decline in the fuel rates. If that method was to work, Dr. sahib continued, government could continue using it against ‘aata’ ‘bijli’ or virtually any number or kind of crisis & inflation.
Now I hope government would indeed turn toward this method someday so we could turn our complete & undivided attention to matters as ‘restoration of free & fair cricketers’ or ‘resolution of controversies of showbiz’.
Come to think of it, wouldn’t a man move heaven & earth to sort out any such problem if it were his daughter instead of Meera (or any other actress for that matter)? Why turn a blind eye toward her then? Isn’t she the daughter of Pakistan? When will we start taking other's daughters for ours?
Let me tell you what does the solution ask, It asks for passion! The passion as I saw about a fan of hers. With heart throbbing uncontrollably, poor fan kept on plucking the petals of a rose, reeling off at one pluck, ‘she’s married’, & at the other, ‘no she’s not’…
‘She’s married, no she is not….she’s married, no she is not….’.
So true was his passion that the garden lost every flower it had that day, for every time there would be a different answer! Or else some one would come rushing from the tv lounge, shouting, ‘a Moulvi Sahib alleges that he said her nikah prayers’! (ah…another flower!)
& another moment later someone stuck to tv for updates would bellow from inside, ‘no…she swore by God & her brother & her father (& even the alleged husband) that it’s wrong’. (never mind…one more flower to go)!
This is what we need now, such an attitude at a national level. No doubt, media is doing all it can to tackle with the situation, indeed it’s doing nothing else these days (another example of the passion we need!). Hats off to it for not having forgotten its professional responsibilities. But at your and mine level, something must be done as well. & the best we can do is remembering her in our prayers during Seher & Iftaar & STOPING posing as if some other nation of the world would discus her or end her agony.
Remember folks, nations do come across many such crucial moments, such awful crisis, but what gets them through is the Faith & Passion!
May these be our guards as we swim out of this mighty calamity!
Pakistan Paindabad!
